Submissions are OPEN

Tattered Script Publishing is a traditional boutique publishing company created to encourage authors to gather and share themselves and their work with others.

By belonging to the Tattered Script Publishing community, your work will become part of a larger platform of writers and thinkers.

We strive for inclusivity and acceptance.

Our Publishing Process

As a selected TSP author, you will come to us with your existing platform, but we will consult with you and teach you how to best use it to share your books and succeed with our marketing package.

The first thing we do is get to know you, your publishing goals, aspirations as an author, and a deeper understanding of your book—what’s inside it and why you want to share it with the world. After that initial meeting, we will review your manuscript and send it to our editor. While the editing magic is happening, our cover designer will begin to understand your manuscript on a deeper level, figuring out how to describe what’s inside your book just from the first glance at the cover. We’ll meet to discuss your vision for the cover and present some design options. Together as a team, we will figure out the best cover for your publication.

Once the editing is complete, we will put your manuscript into our self-publishing widget, Ingram Spark. It allows us to format your book accurately and easily. After we have the finished file, we will do another round of edits and order a physical dummy book for the publishing team to review. Please note: We will ask you to be an integral part of the editing process, and we encourage you to seek an independent editor for your author journey. This is to benefit everyone, as it ensures you’re giving us your best work so we can create the best possible book for you. We are passionate about a beautiful, professionally finished product.

Fiction:

  1. Between 40-60k words. If your memoir/self-help/ short story/poetry collection exceeds the suggested word count, we are not the best publisher for you.

  2. Poetry manuscripts and the novella are strongly encouraged.

  3. Flash fiction and shorter works of fiction will be considered if they meet the minimum word requirement. Anything below the minimum will not be long enough to build a book with a proper spine.

No Graphic Novels. No Children’s. No Horror. No Color Photos or illustrations.

The guidelines include, but are not limited to:

  1. All work must be submitted in English by English-speaking authors residing in the United States.

  2. No submission will be judged blindly. Please include your full name, address, phone, e-mail, personal website (required), and Author Bio in your query letter and on the manuscript itself.

  3. Submissions are chosen with the understanding that they are submitted by the authors themselves and not by a third party or descendant.

  4. Tattered Script Publishing accepts only unpublished authors, but once selected, Tattered Script Publishing maintains the option to retain you and publish subsequent work. Because we anticipate publishing more than one of your manuscripts, should this be decided upon as mutually acceptable and beneficial to both parties, it is highly advisable that you have more than one manuscript completed and professionally edited before submitting.

  5. Tattered Script Publishing will only consider completed manuscripts. This includes all non-fiction.

  6. Although we will try our best to find a balance and work with you to get your manuscript to its most ready state for publication, we ask that you strive to craft your best and most concise work to date. We will not accept incomplete or sloppy submissions. Although you may be a new and unpublished author, please research industry guidelines for what is expected. Your polished work and work ethic will be taken into consideration during the submission process.

  7. Tattered Script Publishing accepts select non-fiction and select poetry, and select short fiction collections.

Please have your manuscript professionally edited. Practice writing query letters, and please have those edited as well. Please do not submit attachments in your introductory email. Include a sample of the work you intend to submit in the body of the email. Submissions will be open to the first fifty applicants meeting the submission guidelines in a calendar year. After that, the submission window will close until the following year. During this submission querying time, Tattered Script Publishing will pick from one to three authors to mentor and guide them through to the final stages of their published project.

Guidelines

Submissions

Please send submission to tatteredscript@gmail.com.

Tattered Script Publishing reserves the right not to publish in a given year and reserves the right to close the submission period at any time for any reason. All accepted applicants with a signed contract will be published. No projects will be left incomplete. Tattered Script Publishing is not responsible for an author’s success. Success varies.

Marketing

Tattered Script Publishing encourages accepted authors to maintain their own author website and social media platforms and market their books themselves using social media, email, and by hosting in-person events.

All Tattered Script authors will be provided with marketing materials, such as postcards and stickers, and will be included on all TSP social media platforms. Any advanced marketing tools and media engagements are the sole responsibility of the author. Tattered Script authors are encouraged to support one another and work to build a community of engaging thinking. Become part of a publishing web to grow your own platform and your unique voice. The work of one becomes the hands of many. Authors who choose not to self-promote or work as a group will not be retained. All media events to promote your book beyond what Tattered Script Publishing provides on its website and social media platforms become the responsibility of the author.

First-time authors need time to build a following and create a platform. Sometimes this takes trial and error and a lot of elbow grease. It can take years to find an audience. Tattered Script Publishing is here for you, should you wish to promote yourself and cross-promote for our team of represented authors. *Divas need not apply.*

Tattered Script Publishing uses Ingram Spark for all print and e-book publications. All work will be published in paperback and e-book format unless an author is willing to take a reduction in royalties to offset the printing costs of a hardback book.

Is a boutique publishing company right for you?

Boutique publishing is not right for everyone. So how can you tell if it is the right “fit” for you?

As a concept, boutique publishing is about you, your work, your unique voice, your ideas, and your product. But it is also about how that work and that product fits into the overall collected vision of International communication and acceptance.

Do you strive to go it alone into your own sea and chart your own course? Or would you prefer that sea have a few places to land that can help anchor you and your work onto a broader platform? Only you can answer that. Publishing is easy. Finding a way to share your work and have it read is harder. We’re here to provide a retail space for your work, a boutique of sorts, of multiple ideas and unique messages all under one collected roof.
