Guidelines

Tattered Script Publishing accepts only previously unpublished English speaking authors writing in English. Tattered Script Publishing does not discriminate against race, ethnicity, religion, or sexual identity.

All submissions will be read and considered once it is determined that they meet the submission guidelines. All submissions not meeting the submission guidelines will be deleted, unread. Only electronic submissions will be accepted.

Tattered Script Publishing accepts the following submissions:

Non-fiction:

  1. Travel/Memoir/Self-Help/Spiritual/Philosophy/Psychology/Climate Change/The Natural World

  2. Earth’s story/Cultural Story/Cultural Diversity/Inspirational/Meditation

No Color Photos or illustrations.

Fiction:

  1. 50,000 words or less. If your short story collection exceeds the suggested word count we are not the best publisher for you.

  2. Poetry and the novella are strongly encouraged.

  3. Flash fiction and shorter works of fiction will be considered.

No graphic novels. No children’s. No Color Photos or illustrations.

The guidelines include, but are not limited to:

  1. All work must be submitted in English by English speaking authors.

  2. No submission will be judged blindly. Please include your full name, address, phone, e-mail, and personal website (required) in your query letter and on the manuscript itself.

  3. Submissions are chosen with the understanding that they are submitted by the authors themselves and not by a third party or descendant.

  4. Tattered Script Publishing accepts only unpublished authors, but once selected, Tattered Script Publishing maintains the option to retain you and publish subsequent work. Because we anticipate publishing more than one of your manuscripts, should this be decided upon as mutually acceptable and beneficial to both parties, it is highly advisable that you have more than one manuscript completed and professionally edited before submitting.

  5. Tattered Script Publishing will only consider completed manuscripts. This includes all non-fiction.

  6. Although we will try our best to find a balance, and work with you to get your manuscript to its most ready state for publication, we ask that you strive to craft your best and most concise work to date. We will not accept incomplete or sloppy submissions. Although you may be a new and unpublished author, please research industry guidelines for what is expected. Your polished work and work ethic will be taken into consideration during the submission process.

  7. Tattered Script Publishing accepts select non-fiction and select poetry and short fiction.

Please have your manuscript professionally edited. Practice writing query letters and please have those edited as well. Please do not submit attachments in your introductory email. Include a sample of the work you intend to submit in the body of the email. Submissions will be open to the first fifty applicants meeting the submission guidelines in a calendar year. After that, the submission window will close until the following year. During this submission querying time Tattered Script Publishing will pick from one to three authors to mentor and guide through to the final stages of their published project.

Marketing

Tattered Script Publishing encourages accepted authors to create and maintain their own social media platforms and market their books themselves using social media, Web platforms such as Zoom, YouTube, as examples, and by hosting in-person events.

All Tattered Script artists will be provided with marketing materials such as postcards and stickers. Any advanced marketing tools and media engagements are the sole responsibility of the author. Tattered Script authors are encouraged to support one another and work to build a community of engaging thinking. Become part of a publishing web to grow your own platform and your unique voice. The work of one becomes the hands of many. Authors who choose not to self-promote themselves or work as a group will not be retained. All media events to promote your book beyond what Tattered Script Publishing provides on its website and social media platforms becomes the responsibility of the author.

First time authors need time to build a following and create a platform. Sometimes this takes trial and error and a lot of elbow grease. It can take years to find an audience. Tattered Script Publishing is here for you should you wish to promote yourself and cross-promote for our team of represented authors. *Divas need not apply.*

Tattered Script Publishing uses Ingram Spark for all print and e-book publications. All work will be published in paperback only and e-book format.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a boutique publishing company right for you?

Boutique publishing is not right for everyone. So how can you tell if it is the right “fit” for you?

As a concept, boutique publishing is about you, your work, your unique voice, your ideas, and your product. But it is also about how that work and that product fits into the overall collected vision of International communication and acceptance.

Do you strive to go it alone into your own sea and chart your own course? Or would you prefer that sea have a few places to land that can help anchor you and your work onto a broader platform? Only you can answer that. Publishing is easy. Finding a way to share your work and have it read is harder. We’re here to provide a retail space for your work, a boutique of sorts, of multiple ideas and unique messages all under one collected roof.
